Her dogs are added entertainment value in a lot of the sessions too. She challenges me regularly and is always willing to set me straight. I've been working with Lauren for 4 months and I have never felt healthier both physically and mentally. I’ve worked with Lauren for over two years. I began by going on a women’s retreat which literally changed my life and I don’t say that lightly. I’ve worked with multiple life coaches, mentors etc and nothing has ever stuck with me the way that retreat helped me. Lauren is different in the sense that she will be there for you always. She never makes you feel like an inconvenience and truly understands the way you need to be trained as an individual. I’ve always struggled with getting into a routine with going to the gym but this year I’ve finally committed and doing the best that I’ve ever done and honestly I owe it all to Lauren. 10 months ago I couldn’t clean and press 2 kg let alone perform squats or lunges. I was heavier than I have ever been in my life and suffering more and more from arthritic pain. As a woman who is totally blind, it can be difficult to exercise beyond walking. You can’t just join a netball team, a softball team or start playing squash. I realised I had to do something about it or one day end up totally crippled. I decided to join a gym and that’s where I met Lauren Harken, personal trainer and coach. When I started working with her I never thought I would get as far as I have. Squats and lunges are now just a regular part of every week’s training; I even do them holding weights. Lauren knows when to Support, when to encourage and yes, when to push, insuring that you are constantly improving. She understands that there are days my pain levels are higher, so on those days we often do yoga. When COVID-19 struck and the gym closed, Lauren moved her business online and we now meet three times a week via FaceTime. With Lauren’s guidance,I have purchased some weights and bands so we still work just as hard as at the gym. As a matter of fact, I feel I have improved far more during lock down than when I was going to the gym. I acknowledge I still have a long way to go, but with Lauren‘s belief in me, she has taught me to believe in myself. I will be eternally grateful.

Lauren helped me train and tone after losing a lot of weight following  a gastric sleeve operation in 2014, she helped me to learn about myself, and how training and food relate to me, and ultimately helped me to fit into my wedding dress to marry my best friend!

7 years later, I’ve turned to her again after putting some weight back on due to IVF medications and a pretty hectic 18 months in my life. 

Her positivity is infectious, her knowledge is fascinating, and her outlook undeniably inspires me to want to be the best version of myself. 

I’m not having perfect days every day, sometimes it’s one step forward, and two steps back, but she is there for EVERY step. 

She’s not just my trainer, she’s my friend, and I’m so grateful for her support.
